Prayer Union believes that effective spiritual leadership begins with a life of prayer and is expressed through humility, service, integrity and faithfulness.

Our leaders are entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the vision, cultivating a culture of prayer, equipping others and helping carry the Prayer Union heritage from one generation to the next.

Our Leadership Conviction

PRAY FIRST. LEAD SECOND.

We believe leadership should flow from intimacy with God.

A Prayer Union leader is not simply someone who organizes meetings. A leader is called to model prayer, build unity, carry responsibility, develop others and serve God’s people faithfully.

We therefore seek leaders who understand that leadership is a stewardship, not a position of privilege.

Our Leadership Principles

1. PRAYER

We lead from the altar.

Leaders are encouraged to seek God before making decisions, to listen before speaking and to depend upon God rather than personal ability.

Prayer is the foundation of our leadership.

2. SERVANTHOOD

We lead by serving.

Jesus demonstrated that true leadership is expressed through service.

Prayer Union leaders are called to serve people, support other leaders, encourage believers and willingly carry responsibility for the benefit of others.

3. INTEGRITY

We lead with honesty and accountability.

We believe leaders must demonstrate integrity in their personal lives, relationships, ministry responsibilities and stewardship of resources.

Trust is essential to healthy leadership.

4. UNITY

We build bridges, not barriers.

Prayer Union brings together believers from different generations, churches, communities and backgrounds.

Our leaders are called to protect the unity of the movement, promote mutual respect and keep the focus on the shared call to prayer.

5. FAITHFULNESS

We remain committed when the work becomes difficult.

Prayer ministry requires perseverance.

Leaders must be willing to continue praying, serving and encouraging others even when progress is slow or circumstances are challenging.

6. EQUIPPING

We develop people, not dependence.

A healthy leader does not seek to do everything personally.

Prayer Union leaders are expected to identify, encourage, mentor and equip others so that leadership and prayer ministry can multiply.

7. GENERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

We prepare the next generation.

We believe the prayer heritage must be intentionally transferred from one generation to another.

We therefore encourage opportunities for emerging leaders to pray, learn, serve and lead.

Leadership Structure

As Prayer Union grows, leadership will operate through a connected structure that encourages both accountability and local participation.

NATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Provides overall vision, spiritual direction, coordination and oversight for the Prayer Union movement.

GOVERNING / ADVISORY LEADERSHIP

Provides wisdom, accountability, counsel and appropriate organizational oversight.

REGIONAL LEADERSHIP

Connects Prayer Unions, leaders and prayer initiatives within geographical regions.

PRAYER UNION LEADERS

Provide leadership within individual Prayer Unions in churches, communities, institutions and other settings.

PRAYER LEADERS

Facilitate prayer gatherings, prayer watches, intercession, teaching and mobilization.

EMERGING LEADERS

Young and developing leaders who are being intentionally equipped to carry the prayer heritage into the future.

Helping leaders understand the purpose, direction and future of the Prayer Union movement.

PREVAILING PRAYER SEMINARS

Equipping believers with biblical understanding and practical tools for persistent and prevailing prayer.

Leadership Training

Developing practical skills for leading Prayer Unions, prayer watches and prayer gatherings.

Mentoring

Creating opportunities for experienced leaders to invest in emerging leaders.

Prayer Leadership Forums

Bringing prayer leaders together for fellowship, learning, encouragement and strategic prayer.

Practical Ministry

Giving emerging leaders opportunities to serve, facilitate prayer and take responsibility.

Leadership and the Next Generation

We believe the next generation must not simply be invited to attend prayer meetings.

They must be equipped to pray, trusted to serve and prepared to lead.

We therefore seek to create spaces where young people can:

PRAY — develop a personal relationship with God.

LEARN — understand biblical prayer and leadership.

SERVE — participate meaningfully in ministry.

LEAD — develop the confidence and character to lead others.

MULTIPLY — help equip another generation.

As Prayer Union develops, leaders will be encouraged to operate within appropriate structures of accountability.
