Prayer Union Diaspora is a strategic expression of the Prayer Union movement that recognises diaspora communities as an important part of God’s mission across nations.

It connects people who live away from their places of origin with prayer, mission, churches, communities and movements in the places they now call home—and with the nations and communities from which they came.

The diaspora is not simply a population that has moved.

It is a mission opportunity.

A PEOPLE BETWEEN PLACES

Diaspora communities live across cultures, nations and generations.

They may be:

• migrants and immigrants;
• refugees and displaced communities;
• international students and scholars;
• professionals and entrepreneurs;
• families living across national borders;
• second- and third-generation communities;
• returning diaspora;
• people connected to more than one nation or culture.

Prayer Union seeks to recognise this diversity while discovering the spiritual and missional potential within it.

The question is not simply:

Where do people live?

The deeper question is:

How can God use people who live between places to connect prayer, people, nations and mission?

For the Prayer Union diaspora strategy, identity is not about creating another exclusive group. It is about helping people understand how their story, heritage, relationships, location and calling can contribute to the mission of God.

THE DIASPORA AS A MISSION ECOSYSTEM

Prayer Union understands diaspora ministry as more than organising diaspora prayer meetings.

It is an ecosystem of relationships.

This ecosystem can connect:

People → Prayer → Identity → Community → Church → Mission → Nations

A person living in one nation may have family in another, professional relationships in another, cultural connections in another and a burden for an unreached community somewhere else.

The diaspora can therefore become a network of bridges through which prayer and mission travel across borders.

Help diaspora communities understand their identity, story, relationships and missional potential.

The goal is not simply to preserve cultural identity, but to develop an identity that enables people to become bridges between peoples and nations.

Establish prayer as the spiritual foundation of diaspora engagement.

Diaspora communities can pray:

• for their host nations;
• for their nations and communities of origin;
• for families divided across borders;
• for churches and Christian communities;
• for justice, peace and reconciliation;
• for mission among peoples and nations;
• for the next generation.

The diaspora becomes a people who carry nations before God.

Build relationships among diaspora communities and Prayer Union expressions across nations.

The objective is to move from isolated diaspora communities to a connected global ecosystem.
