VISION STATEMENT

From the Altar to Auckland — and from Auckland to the Nations

Prayer Union Auckland is a call to gather believers around the altar of prayer—to seek God together, build a watch over the city and nation, carry the burden of God’s heart, and allow prayer to lead into mission.

FROM BARRY REED — TO PETER BADIA — AND BACK TO NEW ZEALAND

We gratefully honour Barry Reed and the contribution of his life and ministry to the Prayer Union vision. What was faithfully carried through his ministry became part of a continuing call to recover the place of prayer, build the watch, carry the burden and see prayer move into mission.

That call was subsequently carried by Peter Badia, who has sought to receive, develop and advance the Prayer Union vision for a new season and a new generation.

Now, with gratitude for what has been entrusted and with faith for what lies ahead, Prayer Union Auckland represents a renewed expression of that calling returning to New Zealand.

This is not simply a return to the past.

It is a return to the altar with a forward-looking vision.

What was carried by Barry Reed.
What has been carried forward through Peter Badia.
What is now being planted afresh in Auckland.
And what we believe God can multiply throughout New Zealand and to the nations.

HONOURING THE FOUNDATION — EMBRACING THE FUTURE

We honour Barry Reed without seeking to replicate another generation’s expression in exactly the same way.

We honour what has been entrusted by carrying its essential call forward.

We acknowledge Peter Badia’s role in carrying and developing that vision into a new season, while recognising that the future belongs to a new generation whom God is raising for His purposes.

Our desire is to see Prayer Union become a living movement of prayer—rooted in Scripture, centred on Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit and responsive to the needs of this generation.

OUR VISION FOR AUCKLAND

We envision Auckland becoming a city covered in prayer.

A city where believers from different churches, cultures, communities and generations gather around the altar of prayer.

We envision:

Prayer gatherings multiplying across Auckland.
Prayer watches being established throughout the city.
Churches strengthened through united intercession.
Families and communities being covered in prayer.
Young people being raised as worshippers, intercessors and missionaries.
Prayer becoming a pathway into evangelism, compassion and mission.
New Prayer Unions emerging throughout New Zealand.
Auckland becoming a place from which prayer, people and resources are released to the nations.

We commit ourselves to the foundational call that has shaped the Prayer Union vision:

RECOVER THE ALTAR

Returning to prayer, worship, holiness and wholehearted devotion to God.

BUILD THE WATCH

Establishing faithful and united prayer watches over Auckland, New Zealand and the nations.

CARRY THE BURDEN

Standing in intercession for people, churches, communities and nations according to the heart of God.

PREVAIL IN PRAYER

Persevering in faith until God’s purposes are accomplished.

GO INTO MISSION

Allowing prayer to take us beyond the gathering and into compassionate action, evangelism and service.

SEND TO THE NATIONS

Raising, equipping, releasing and supporting those called to carry the Gospel wherever God sends them.

BACK TO NEW ZEALAND — FOR A NEW SEASON

The return of the Prayer Union vision to New Zealand is an opportunity to sow afresh.

We believe God can use Auckland as a place where churches come together in prayer, where intercessors are equipped, where young people discover their calling, and where prayer becomes a catalyst for mission.

Our vision is not merely to establish another prayer meeting.

It is to cultivate a praying people.

A people who will stand in the gap.

A people who will carry the burden.

A people who will persevere.

A people who will go.

A people who will send.

And from New Zealand, we believe God can raise a movement of prayer that reaches the nations.

OUR DECLARATION

We honour Barry Reed.
We acknowledge what Peter Badia has carried forward.
We return to New Zealand with a renewed vision.
And we look to the future with faith.
