Introduction

The deeper question is:

What kind of Prayer Unions are being established?

If Prayer Union is to become a reproducible movement across churches, communities, counties, nations and generations, every local expression must carry a recognizable spiritual DNA.

DNA provides identity.

It carries the characteristics of life from one generation to the next.

In the same way, every Prayer Union should carry certain foundational characteristics regardless of where it is established.

These characteristics should remain recognizable whether a Prayer Union is meeting in a home in Punjab, a church in Auckland, a community in Nairobi, a county in Kenya or another nation around the world.

The context may change.

The language may change.

The size may change.

The culture may change.

The Bible provides the foundation, language, boundaries and vision of prayer.

A healthy Prayer Union therefore does not simply gather people to express whatever concerns are immediately present.

It teaches people to pray according to the character and purposes of God revealed in Scripture.

Scripture gives prayer direction.

It teaches believers:

• how God’s people are called to live;
